The Golf Mk7 may be out since last year but its range consists of the so-called cooking models; the hot flavored variants, such as the GTI, still soldier on based on the underpinnings of the sixth-generation C-segment model. It won’t be long before they are replaced, though, as the new car has already been revealed in concept form. To commemorate the final model year of the MK6-based Golf GTI VW rolled out two limited editions at the Chicago Auto Show today.
The GTI Wolfsburg Edition, which will be the first to go on sale in the first quarter of 2013, features 18-inch “Laguna” alloy wheels, a retro golf-ball gear lever knob and red stitched floor mats. It will be produced in 2,000 units and priced at US25,905 for the six-speed manual transmission and $26,195 for the dual-clutch DSG.
In the second quarter of the year VW will roll out the GTI Driver’s Edition, which will be available in 3,000 units, will come out. On top of the Wolfsburg Edition’s equipment, it adds the Sunroof and Navigation packages, part-leather seat trim, a special GTI gear pack including a hat, keychain and parking sign and a Certificate of Authenticity.
