NAIAS 2013: Kia Enhances U.S. Lineup with New Cadenza Mid-Size Sedan [Updated]

|

At the Detroit Auto Show, Kia revealed a new model for the American market named the Cadenza. The mid-size sedan is not new, as it was first launched in South Korea as the K7 back in late 2009 and was recently subjected to a facelift. As is the case with most vehicles in Kia's lineup, the Cadenza is related to a Hyundai model and in particular, the Azera.
The Cadenza slots between the smaller Optima and the bigger and more luxurious Quoris rear-wheel drive flagship (also known as the K9).
“Since the introduction of the range-topping Optima SXL last year, we have seen an increasing number of customers in our retail outlets looking for a sedan with even more upscale amenities and technology,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president of marketing & communications for Kia North America.
“The Cadenza is the new flagship for Kia in the U.S. market, and when it goes on sale later this year, it will introduce a number of advanced systems that promise to set a new standard in the premium segment,” he added.
In its updated form, the Cadenza's styling was influenced by the Quoris gaining a new front end with Kia's so-called "Tiger Nose" grille, along with revised tail lamps, bumper designs and a host of interior improvements and additions such as new controls, an analogue watch positioned in the middle of the center stack and refreshed instrument gauges.
In the States, the Cadenza is equipped with Kia’s most potent V6 engine, which from a displacement of 3.3-liters, produces 293 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,200 rpm. A standard six-speed automatic transmission drives the front wheels.
It features an independent suspension with a McPherson strut setup in front and a multilink rear design, while riding on 245/45R-18 tires in base trim and 245/40R-19 tires with the optional Technology Package.
Kia said standard features include a navigation system with SiriusXM Traffic and UVO eServices, displayed on a high-resolution 8-inch touch screen, leather seat trim, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear seat ventilation, Smart Key keyless entry with push-button start, 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat and Bluetooth wireless technology.
The new Cadenza will arrive in U.S. showrooms in the second quarter of the year with pricing to be announced.
