While Mercedes-Benz avoided the North American International Auto Show for the presentation of the CLA (even though it did reveal the car in Detroit), the brand with the star is offering visitors the chance to check out its updated E-Class family. All 2014 E-Class models ditch their quad headlamps, a staple of the series since the mid-1990s, for a more conventional headlamp treatment, along with new grilles, bumpers and revised tail lamp graphics.
In a first for the series, the regular E-Class Sedan and Wagon are available with two different front-end designs, one with the classic three-dimensional sedan grille and star on the hood or with the sports car grille.
Whereas the coupe and convertible members of the family keep their curvy rear fenders, Mercedes' designers smoothed out the profile styling on the sedan and Estate models.
You'll also find some changes inside, mainly to the center console, the materials and trims, while Mercedes added a host of updated or new technological features.
The stars of the series, the E63 AMG Sedan and Wagon, benefit from a power upgrade that lifts output to 550HP (557PS), while there's also a new S-Model with 577HP and, for the first time ever, the option of all-wheel drive.
In the U.S., sales of all 2014 E-Class models will begin in the summer.
