Mercedes-Benz has updated its SL roadster for the 2014 model year in Britain, with the most significant change being the introduction of the new SL 350 and SL 500 AMG Sport variants that replace the base versions of the respective models, and which come with new styling appointments and enhanced standard equipment.Despite all the upgrades worth £6,625, the new SL 350 and SL 500 AMG Sport models are actually priced lower at £69,960 OTR (-£2,570) and £79,970 OTR (-£3,520) respectively, than the base models they replace.
Available from this June, the new 2014 SL 350 and SL 500 gain the AMG Sports Package that comprises 19-inch alloy wheels, a 10mm lowered sports suspension with revised damper settings, an AMG body kit with side skirts, front and rear aprons and boot lip spoiler, and an upgraded brake kit with perforated rear brake disks and grey calipers for the SL 350.
On the inside, the AMG Sports editions feature standard sports seats with perforated leather,designo Platinum White Pearl piping on door armrests, centre console, seat side bolsters and head restraints, sports steering wheel with silver gear shift paddles and perforated leather in grip areas, a chequered flag-design instrument cluster, bespoke floor mats and black fabric roof lining.
Both cars benefit from a revised 7G-Tronic Plus transmission with ‘S’ mode that now features modified shift points, and gain an electric glass sunroof, and Parkronic with Active Park Assist as standard.
Mercedes added that the paint choices have been updated to now include one non-metallic paint and five metallic paints, including the new standard Polar White and the optional Hyacinth Red (£690). Inside, the cars come fitted with black leather as standard, with Bengal Red and Porcelain nappa leather offered as a £710 option.
While there are no changes to the SL 65 AMG, the SL 63 AMG (priced from £110,785 OTR) gains an electric panoramic glass sunroof and Parktronic with Active Park Assist as standard for the new model year.
