While most manufacturers do their best to hide their latest models from prying eyes before their official launch, Porsche has been quite forthcoming about its new supercar, the 918 Spyder. In fact, it has already released a barrage of information, including the specifications of its 770+ HP hybrid powertrain and (provisional) performance figures: 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) comes in 3.2 seconds and top speed exceeds 320 km/h (199 mph).
Today, Porsche announced on its Facebook page that the 918 Spyder has lapped theNordschleife in 7:14’. That's better than most supercars, including its Carrera GT predecessor and the Lexus LFA Nürburgring edition, but behind the "old" Dodge Viper ACR (7:12.13) as far as production models are concerned.
In a strange turn of fate, Porsche’s official brochure for the 918 Spyder also found its way into the web today.
Even though the carmaker has already announced pricing for the model, which starts at US$845,000 in the States and €645,000 in Europe, before VAT and local taxes, the brochure provides some interesting details.
For example, Porsche asks a jaw-dropping US$65,000 for the “special” Liquid Metal Blue or Liquid Metal Grey exterior finish. If you find the charge exorbitant, you can choose between 10 colors, plus the Martini Racing or Salzburg Racing Design films.
Although it doesn’t quote a price, the brochure reveals that 918 Spyder buyers will be able to opt for the Weissach Package, which does away with amenities such as the air conditioning, audio system, armrest and door storage to reduce weight by 34 kg (77 pounds).
As a bonus, you can also watch a new video of a white 918 Spyder with the Martini Racing livery driven on public streets right after the break.
