GM to Launch Real Life Hot Wheels Edition of 2013 Chevrolet Camaro at SEMA Show

|

It's no secret that the idea of turning a Hot Wheels toy car into a real life production model had been brewing in the heads of officials from General Motors and Mattel for quite some time, with the two companies even presenting a real-life Camaro Hot Wheels concept study at the 2011 SEMA show.GM and Mattel have now finally materialized their dream and will be presenting a limited production run model at the 2012 edition of the annualaftermarket extravaganza in Las Vegas that opens on Tuesday, October 30.
The Hot Wheels-badged 2013 Chevy Camaro will be available as both a coupe and a convertible with either a 3.6-liter V6 or a 6.2-liter V8 engine, complete with a bespoke exclusive kinetic blue metallic exterior paint accented by red Hot Wheels flame logos inside and out, and special Hot Wheels-style rims.
While a Hot Wheels Camaro toy car can be had for a couple of bucks, if not less, the real life model will cost…a tad more as the package will be offered as a $6,995 option (plus the cost of the Camaro, of course), and will be available for order starting from January 2013.
"It's the first time a fan can go out and buy a real Hot Wheels car that they can go out and drive around," Felix Holst, vice president of design for Hot Wheels told the Detroit News.
"I saw the car last week and it is beautiful. It is fantastic. It really oozes Hot Wheels without being too over the top. It's got a custom flare to it. … It's a real muscle car," Holst added.
Naturally, the Hot Wheels 2013 Camaro will be offered in a much more affordable toy car version, a few hundred of which will be handed out at SEMA, while Chevrolet dealers will also carry a special pack.
