It seems that all the fear regarding the Porsche 911's new electric power steering system has died down, and it is still revered as a sweet-handling track machine. Now that the Cabriolet version is out, EVO Mag has pitted it against an even newer sports car, the Jaguar F-Type V6S, in a classic head to head track battle.
The British car has a 160 kg (353 lbs) handicap over the 911, and its 375hp (380PS) supercharged V6 is also a bit more powerful than the German car’s “base” 345hp (350PS) 3.4-liter flat-six, but given the extra bulk, the outcome of the battle is not at all predictable - at first…
Now, in order to make the video more interesting,EVO brought in Tiff Needell to get behind the wheels of both cars, as he is quite experienced and has done this more than a few times before. He likes both cars, and he is able to slide them around with ease, and while we pretty much know what the 911 is like already, it’s the F-Type we’re most interested in.
Needle really likes the Jag, and calls it frisky while hanging out its tale in some of the tighter corners. However, he does make repeated comments about how the car feels its extra weight, especially under braking, and by the time both cars had completed their laps, the outcome was very obvious and one-sided.
