Ferrari LaFerrari-Based…Maserati LaMaserati Rendered

|

We were intrigued when we first heard that Maserati was considering to pull an MC-12 again, and launch a car based on the flagship Ferrari model, the Geneva showstopper – LaFerrari. We were even more surprised when we learnt that it was going to ditch the complicated and heavy hybrid system, and go for a more holistic approach to building a hypercar.
Now, we can get an idea of what it may look like, with a rendering brought to us courtesy of independent designer Anton Gjorsev.
The top Maserati is to share its underpinnings with the LaFerrari, so its stance and overall shape will not necessarily be so different. Sure, the MC12 had considerably longer overhangs than the Enzo on which it was based, but in that case, they just didn't bother to trim the excess off the racing car (the MC12 was conceived primarily for racing purposes, and this isn't).
There are currently no official details on what will power the LaMaserati, but since it isn't trying to be a slightly different LaFerrari, we would really like to see the proposed quad-turbo V8, based on the 3.8-liter unit found in the latest Quattroporte.
Only 50 are rumored to be made, so you're more likely to see the LaFerrari. Nevertheless, as a project for car nuts like us, it's just as interesting. Also, since all the major hypercars have now been revealed, and the Maserati is arriving late to the party in 2015, it still has another two years (at least) to gather hype, so that when it does finally come, we will be ready to greet it accordingly.
