Australia Gets Updated 2014 Holden Cruze with New 177HP Turbo Variant

|

GM's Australian branch, Holden, has just revealed the 2014 Cruze featuring a number of improvements over the previous version, as well as a new 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that puts out 177HP (179PS / 132 kW), and a second-generation six-speed automatic gearbox.
For the first time, the 2014 model offers a sports suspension pack on SRi and SRi-V models, while Equipe (which replaces the old CD base trim) and CDX models get a more comfort-oriented setup.
The new six-speed automatic gearbox is available on all petrol-powered models, while SRi and SRi-V versions gain a faster-shifting sport mode. Called Performance Mode Lift Foot (PMLF), it detects the need for increased power during cornering, and selects a lower gear to aid with corner exit. GM uses the system on their more high-performance cars, like the Holden Commodore and thenew Cadillac ATS.
Aside from the new turbocharged engine, the rest of the range is unchanged, with the base motor being the same 1.8-liter unit with 139hp (141PS), while the next engine up is a turbocharged 1.4-liter lump, with one horsepower less, but with a higher torque rating, at 200 Nm (147 lb-ft). A diesel is also offered, and it's the familiar 161hp (163PS) 2.0-liter diesel, which is used in a variety of GM vehicles and provides strong performance and decent economy.
All cars come with air-con, six-speaker sound system, as well as a revised version of the MyLink infotainment setup. Additional kit includes a reversing camera, keyless entry, as well as a more aggressive body kit on SRi and SRi-V models, which get more sporty-looking front and rear bumpers, as well as lower side skirts and a spoiler on the rear.
