New A180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the Most Frugal Mercedes-Benz Model of All Time

|

A few months after the launch of the new A-Class, the brand with the star is enhancing the range of its compact hatchback with two new eco-friendly BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models, one of which has the distinction of being the most fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz model of all time.Said model is the diesel-powered A180 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Edition sporting a 1.5-liter unit with 108hp (109PS) coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox driving the front wheels that returns a combined fuel consumption of just 3.6-liters (equal to 65.3mph US and 78.5mpg UK) and CO2 emissions of only 92 g/km.
The second addition to the lineup is the A180 BlueEFFICIENCY Edition petrol model powered by a 1.6-liter four-pot producing 120-horses (122PS), with a combined fuel consumption of 5.2 lt/100 km (45mpg US or 54.3mpg UK) and 120g of CO2/km.
Mercedes-Benz points out that the fuel consumption of the BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models is even lower than for the basic vehicles– by 0.2 (diesel) and 0.3 l/100 km (petrol) respectively, representing an improvement of five percent in each case.
These fuel economy numbers were achieved thanks to a series of improvements such as the partial covering of the upper section of the radiator grille, aerodynamically shaped spring link coverings, a 15mm lowered suspension, revised generator management system and longer gear ratios for the transmission.
Round LED daytime running lamps set into the bumper visually set the BlueEFFICIENCY Edition models apart.
Both the petrol and diesel variants go on sale in Europe in February with first deliveries to customers in March this year.
