Meet Nissan's new entry in the North American sub-compact category that will go against the Ford Fiesta and Chevrolet Sonic hatchbacks when it reaches showrooms later this summer with prices starting from $13,990, (*) excluding destination and handling. It’s not the first time we have seen the Versa Note as Nissan introduced the Japanese domestic market (JDM) version of the model in July last year under the Note nameplate.
While the Note complements the Versa family, which includes Nissan's entry sedan in America priced from $11,990 MSRP, the hatch has a more distinct look, though it will hardly win any awards for its design.
Power for the hatch comes from a 1.6-liter unit delivering just 109hp at 6,000 rpm and 107 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm, with transmission options including a a 5-speed manual transmission (base model only) and a new Xtronic CVT.
Nissan estimates that the front-wheel drive Versa Note will return 40 mpg Highway, 31 mpg City and 35 mpg Combined for CVT-equipped models.
Buyers can choose from four trim grades named S, S Plus and SV, along with top-of-the-line SL Packages.
There are several new technology features available, including Nissan's Around View Monitor that utilizes four small superwide-angle cameras mounted on the front, side and rear of the vehicle to provide a virtual 360-degree view of objects around the vehicle, and the NissanConnectSM with Navigation System and a 5.8-inch color touch-screen display.
